Hey guys!
On what basis do you choose a motorcycle to buy??
We check many things before buying a bike; one of them is mileage .we heard people talking about mileage.
What is the meaning of bike mileage??
Let me explain!
Mileage determines the efficiency of the engine.
The distance your engine can drive the vehicle per liter of fuel is called mileage. I know I am going deep into physics.
Let me stop this here!
1. Mileage
People believe that low mileage vehicles are better to purchase since they are newer bikes, but what I say is buying a motorcycle can be decided only after knowing its service history.
A high mileage of a bike ranges from 40,000 to 50,000 miles. We can only buy this bike if it has no oil leakage, regular maintenance, and mechanical damage.
2. Sports bike
Sports bikes usually have a shorter life when compared to other bikes. These bikes are driven so harshly and challenging by the riders during races, so they need revving engines. When we are talking about Sports bikes, 25,000 miles is considered high mileage.
Water-cooled engines work for a long time because they can run cooler than air-cooled engines. This point makes a huge difference in choosing a bike!!

Regular maintenance of the bike is very crucial as it helps to ride the bike smoother. It will also detect the repairs, if any, and fix them.
If you choose to buy a bike with 25,000 mileage and with poor service records, that means there will be no extra uses for buying because it will always trouble you, and it also requires many maintenance charges, and it works only for a shorter life.
There is a bike whose odometer reading is more than 50,000 plus with good maintenance services, and then it’s okay if you don’t depend on mileage count because what essential is a bike with service records than the mileage on the odometer.
Buying the high mileage bike is okay because you can convince the seller to give it for a lower price or ask the seller for a discount.
If you are interested in buying a second-hand bike, you must take the bike to a well-experienced mechanic to check all the mechanical parts of the cycle and help you decide whether to buy it or not.
My grandfather always used to teach me a few beneficial things. I am going to share one of them with you now!!
Once, he told me to spend money on buying properties but not on automobiles because if you already have a car or bike, then what is the need to buy another when you are maintaining your old motorcycle or car with a regular service check-up and with no damage. Why do you choose to buy another vehicle when you are maintaining regular service records for your vehicles and when they work for a longer life!
So, guys
Here are a few criticisms based on which I take care of my high mileage vehicles!!
1. Break -in- the engine!!
If you want to keep your old vehicle running like new, then learn to properly break in the engine.
500 to 1000 Miles on the odometer is the general motorcycle breaking period.
Using the highest gear can also be a useful thing.
Stop driving so hard and rough with your vehicle.
2. Service Manual
When you buy a bike, they will give you a service manual. They include all the fundamentals to follow while riding a motorcycle and consist of the measurements to take, which helps prevent mechanical damage!! They give us a glance at the brake servicing and valve adjustments!
3. Air Filters
This is mainly for motorcyclists who ride on sandy roads!!
When you ride on dirt and sandy areas, the air filter gets affected very badly.
This is considered as one of the essential maintenance services that every motorcyclist should get aware of!
When the air filter is dusted, then that means we are putting our motorcycle engine in danger!
The engine is like the brain of a motorcycle; if it is affected, the motorcycle will lose its capabilities!!
We should regularly check the replacement or the washing of the air filter to protect the engine.
4. Water Coolant
We have already discussed that water Cooled engines work for longer life than air-cooled engines!
Coolant will prevent the Overheating of the engine, and also the water pump in the motorcycle will not be failed!
In general, the liquid coolant of the motorcycle is precise to be changed every two years. Go through the service manual to know the suitable coolant for your vehicle.
When time passes, the coolant loses its cooling capacity. As the coolant’s behavior determines the working condition of the motorcycle, we need to change the coolant on time!
Don’t be in a hurry while you are changing the coolant because there will be a list of coolants given in your vehicle’s service manual. You can also take suggestions from the other motorcyclist, ask them the type of coolant they are using for their vehicle and then decide because there are a considerable number of coolants available in the market!
5. Lubrication of chains
It is expected that the chain of a motorcycle should be lubricated every 300-600 miles to get better performance from the motorcycle!
Applying grease or oil to the motorcycle chain is trusted to be one of the major factors in servicing the bike!
Lubricating the motorcycle chain reduces the friction, and it will make sure the vehicle runs smoothly!
This factor can alone run your high mileage vehicle for a longer life!
High mileage alone is not enough for a bike, but it’s service records also play a vital role in rating a bike!!
The service life of any bike depends on how the owner looks after it. It is all in the owner’s hand.
So guys!
These are the few things about high mileage vehicles that I have come across!
